Kevin Rushby's BlogTuesday 23rd March 2010The blog gap has been so long, I couldn't remember how to update this thing and had to ask. Reason has been incessant travelling and that doesn't stop. The Guardian have let Grumpy Green die a natural death. The reasoning is that green is part of everything now and does not require a special section. So out of his ashes springs The Explorer - my new incarnation - with a remit to find adventure and new frontiers. Music to my ears really. Part of this was a recent trip to Yellowstone to watch wolves - an astonishing experience. Background reading was Of Wolves and Men, by Barry Lopez - written 40 years ago but still fascinating. Thursday 25th July 2007Watch out for my new column, The Grumpy Green, starting in The Guardian Saturday Travel section on July 28th. Currently reading Roger Deakin's Waterlog, a wonderful account of swimming through Britain. Thursday 22nd MarchHere's a contribution to debates raging in households up and down the country. Where to go on holiday - and should we think about the green issues... http://travel.guardian.co.uk/article/2007/feb/03/saturday.green Thursday 1st March 2007current reading People of the Book by Zachary Karabell I'm also enjoying re-reading Hiawatha by Longfellow - a bit of background for a novel I've been working on. Latest discovery on the web is Questia.com a wonderful academic online library. Also starting to plan my course on 'Travel and Creative Writing' which will run in York from 17th April (if you'd like to come contact the WEA, York branch) Wednesday 7th FebruaryApologies for the huge blogging gap... First there was the mammoth trip across the U.S researching utopian/paradise communities, then family Christmas. Hopefully a short film of the trip will be available soon on the web - of the road trip not the Christmas - just needs editing. Places we visited included Walden Pond, Oneida, Zanesville (Blue Horizon earth ship and Longtimeago Farm), New Harmony, St Louis, Las Vegas, Death Valley, Yosemite and San Francisco. More to follow on this... current reading: Stanley: the impossible life of Africa’s greatest explorer by Tim Jeal. |
